There is a huge debate between dabbing and vaping in the Vaping community. We like to give the greatest information and items on the market at MeDispensary.
In order to provide an objective look at dabbing and vaping pens, and determine which one is better, we wanted to lay it all out on the table. But before we dive into deep, let’s start off with some basics.
What is a Wax Pen?
A wax vaporizer pen, or vape pen is a small handheld smoking device used for vaporizing wax concentrates. This process is done by placing the wax in a chamber on top of the coil, which heats up and causes the wax to collect and be inhaled.
Why Do People Use Wax Pens?
Some people use wax pens for different reasons, but many stoners like them because:
- They’re extremely easy to conceal
- They’re relatively odorless
- They have replaceable parts
- They have rechargeable batteries
- They are affordable
- They’re very portable
- They are easy to customize
- They allow for a lot of temperature control
- They’re very potent
Overall, using a wax pen is an extremely convenient way to smoke wax concentrates. They are durable, easy to conceal and relatively easy to travel with because they are so light and odorless.
They’re also quiet, compact, and affordable, making them an excellent choice for stealthy vape users. They’re easy to conceal in a handbag or on a keychain. Furthermore, they are less hefty than many other vaporizers vape pens available on the market.
Besides that, their pens come at a reasonable price, and finding affordable parts and upgrades online is easy. So you can keep using the same pen for years to come without worrying about performance issues.
What is a Vape Pen?
Pens are tiny, handheld devices that may be used to vape oils and distillates. These liquids are loaded into disposable or refillable chambers, which are then heated from below using a coil similar to dab pens.
Why Do People Use Vape Pens?
A lot of people much rather vape pens instead of dab pens because they have refillable chambers, which makes them far more convenient–it means there’s less need for cleaning and the refueling process is much easier.
They’re about the same size as dab pens, are equally convenient to transport about with, cost roughly the same and are just as simple to utilize and maintain. This might accumulate over time and cause extra expenses, which is why some people favor dab pens. Some individuals prefer dab pens because they allow you to smoke more than one sort of concentrate; whereas vape pens only allow you to smoke oils.
Dabbing and Vaping – What’s the Difference?
Now that you know a bit about dab pens vs. vape pens, let’s take a closer look at the differences between the two and see which one is best for you.
1. Smoking Experience
Dab pens, on average, deliver a more pleasant vaping experience than vape pens. The following are the two most common reasons for this:
- Dab pens tend to have more temperature control, which allows you to take cooler hits
- The vapor from dab pens is much less harsh than the thicker smoke that comes from oils
When you smoke a dab pen as opposed to a vape pen, both experiences are smooth, but you can notice a difference.
2. Types of Concentrates
Vape pens, like e-cigarettes, can only be used with oils or distillates. Meanwhile, you may use a variety of different concentrates with a dab pen based on the type.
- Wax
- Shatter
- Butter
- Crumble
- And more…
Basically, you can smoke just about anything besides oils with the right type of dab pen.
3. Accessories
Traditional vape rigs are much more complex than dab pens and vape pens (sorry to crush your egos, young vape gods). For dab pens and vape pens, there are quite a few accessories that you can use to upgrade them, including:
- New batteries
- Coils
- Atomizers
- Mouthpieces
If you travel frequently, it may be worth investing in a carrying case for your vape pen or dab pen.
4. Price Point – How Much Do They Cost?
Dab pens and vape pens have the same pricing structure. In general, you can get a lot of value for between $50 and $100.
If you spend anything less than that, you are more van likely to run into problems with performance, poor durability, lack of temperature control, and other common complaints that people have about cheap dab pens.
5. Size – How Portable Are They?
Dab pens and vape pens are similar in size, typically being 4”-5” tall and 0.25” wide.
This makes them a super convenient way to smoke on the go and easy to fit in your pocket. When you couple that with the fact that they are more or less odorless, it makes for a very concealable way to smoke.
6. Cleaning – Which One is Easier to Clean?
Vape pens definitely get a one-up on this category because they have refillable or disposable cartridges. This drastically reduces the amount of buildup that happens inside of your pain, as long as you do not spill.
However, unless you’re using a substantial amount of oily concentrates in your dab pen, they aren’t really messy. Because concentrate gets trapped inside the coil as it burns and melts to the atomizer, this may lead to issues such as breakage or clogs.
Overall, cleaning your dab pen or vape pen is relatively easy if you know how to do it the right way.
7. Durability – Which One Lasts Longer?
Generally speaking, if you purchase a high-quality dab pen or vape pen and treat them right, with periodic cleaning, you should be able to make them last quite a long time.
Some brands and goods may be more reliable than others, but it varies significantly based on the brand and how you handle it. With that in mind, here are a few specific companies and items that deserve special mention.
8. Safety – Which One is Safer to Smoke?
Let us be clear: no form of smoking is safe. When you breathe in smoke or vapor, you are breathing in carcinogens and other harmful chemicals, which might cause harm to your lungs and other organs.
Because dabbing and vaping are still new, we lack scientific evidence hinting at how safe or dangerous pen smoking really is.
Look, we are Stoners, not doctors. We’re not chemists either. But, when asking the question of which one is safer between using a dab pen vs. a vape pen – we definitely I would have to say that using a dab pen is safer.
Dab pens offer a much healthier alternative to smoking vape pens because you are only inhaling the vapors from the concentrate. Most of the concentrate is not evaporated, and most of what is vaporized is done so at a relatively cool temperature.
The procedure of converting a vape pen’s juice into steam and breathing it into one’s lungs is the same as for e-cigarettes. You’re basically superheating a syrup-like fluid filled with known carcinogens like formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and propylene glycol before expelling it as steam through your mouth. Given the new risks associated with vaping, we do not recommend that anyone use a vape pen until further study is completed.
If you choose to do either, we hope you understand the potential risks to your health, are of legal age within your state or territory, and are only smoking legal concentrates.
Dabbing and Vaping – Our Final Take
Advantages can be seen in both vape pens and cigarettes. Vape pens don’t need to be refilled as often, are simpler to clean, and have a more potent effect.
In our opinion, dab pens are much more versatile and less dangerous than other types of concentrates.
Lastly, some people prefer dab pens to vape pens because they offer a smoother smoking experience and more temperature control.
We must choose the dab pens as having more flexibility and smoother because they have so many parallels with each other.
